Henry County Cemetery Commission Minutes, March 26, 2009

Commission Members Present: Burch, Bush, Hamm, Holmes, Tauber
Present from the Public: Mike Lykens, Jeff Ray, Angela Tielking
1. The minutes of the meeting of February 26 were considered and approved as distributed.
2. The commission discussed Stony Creek Township cemeteries with township trustee Mike Lykens and Jeff Ray of Summit Lake. A previous trustee signed a contract with the Central Indiana Land Trust, Inc. (CILTI) that restricts mowing in three cemeteries-Bundy, Current, and Rogersville--in order to conserve native vegetation. Their preferred method of reducing undergrowth is burning, but the commission is concerned that this could do long-term damage to tombstones. Jeff Ray has done some repair work in the cemeteries, locating, straightening, and resetting at least fifty markers. The commission will pursue ways that markers can be made accessible to visitors without disturbing the prairie grasses, and resetting large stones in conjunction with the trustee and CILTI.
3. The treasurer reported a $50 donation for use at the Hicksite Cemetery in Greensboro from Rick and Tracy Jones in memory of Maxine Higginbotham. This brings our balance to $3,408.71.
4. The president reported that she had attended a grant workshop given by the Henry County Community Foundation.
5. The commission voted to spend 300 to $500.00 if necessary for typesetting fees for brochures if we receive the Henry County Foundation Grant.

Respectfully submitted,
D. Tauber, President
T. Hamm, Secretary
