1. Consideration of the October minutes was postponed.
2. The commission noted that commission member Bud Bush had been awarded the Chamber of Commerce Hoosier Hospitality Award.
3. The current officers were reelected for 2010.
4. The Volunteer of the Year Award winners for 2009 were Bob Riddle, Bob Hess, and Brad Metzenberger.
5. The treasurer reported a balance of $3,658.71.
6. Helen Butler has paid for a sign for the Kessinger Cemetery in Blue River Township.
7. Ken Holmes has winterized the trailer.
8. Donna Tauber and Ann Holmes will distribute brochures. Eddie Hager also volunteered to help.
9. The commission agreed to offer punch and cookies at the Arts Park Festival on June 3 as a means of gaining exposure.
10. The commission discussed ways of gaining further exposure. One possibility is to have a public workshop at the New Castle-Henry County Public Library on April 29.
11. The commission discussed a possible schedule of workdays, to be publicized, from May through August. Candidates for work include the Holland Cemetery in Dudley Township; the Pioneer Baptist Cemetery in Knightstown; Beech Grove Cemetery in Prairie Township; the Painter Cemetery in Fall Creek Township; the Hess Cemetery in Harrison Township; and the Flat Rock Friends Cemetery in Liberty Township.
12. The meeting adjourned, with the next meeting scheduled for February 24.

Henry County Cemetery Commission Minutes, February 25, 2010
Commission Members present: Bush, Hamm, Holmes, and Tauber
Present from the public: K. Holmes
1. The minutes of the meeting of January 28 were approved.
2. The treasurer reported the balance unchanged since last month.
3. A claim of $25 for a gift certificate for “Affairs of the Heart” was approved.
4. The commission will conduct a public workshop, “Resting in Peace? Preserving Henry County Cemeteries,” at the New Castle-Henry County Public Library on Thursday, April 29, from 6:30 to 8:00 P.M. Presenters will include Tom Hamm and Bud Bush from the commission, and some guest speakers as well.
5. The commission decided on some possible work dates and places for the summer. These will be finalized and announced later.
6. The commission agreed to furnish refreshments for a June 3 showing at the Arts Park. About 40 people are expected.
7. Possible venues for publicity were discussed, including the Henry County Historical Society, the local newspapers, fliers, the courthouse, libraries, the health department, and the tourism office.
8. The committee adjourned until its next meeting on March 25.

Henry County Cemetery Commission Minutes, March 25, 2010

1. The minutes of the meeting of February 25 were approved as previously disseminated.
2. The commissioners discussed the program to be offered at the New Castle Public Library at 6:30 on Thursday, April 29. It will include presentations by Tom Hamm, Bud Bush, and Jeanie Regan-Dinius of DNR. We will contribute cookies and brownies for refreshments. Donna Tauber will handle publicity, and Donna and Bud are handling other arrangements.
3. Mayor Small informed Bud Bush that he saw no problems in erecting a sign at the site of the North 14th Street Cemetery and would be willing to participate in a dedication ceremony.
4. Mike Burch reported that he will have stones reset at the Lebanon Baptist Cemetery in Prairie Township.
5. We have been vexed by rumors that the state is distributing money for cemetery preservation. This apparently stems from Internet reports about legislation that we proposed but that the legislature never passed.
6. The commission agreed to have a workday at the Hess Cemetery in Harrison Township on Saturday, May 15, beginning at 9:00 a.m.
7. The treasurer reported an unrestricted donation of $100 from Judith Robbins.
8. The meeting adjourned. Next meeting will be April 22.

Henry County Cemetery Commission Minutes, April 22, 2010
Commissioners present: Burch, Bush, Hamm, Holmes, Tauber
Present from the Public: Angela Tielking, Ken Holmes
1. The minutes of the meeting of March 25 were corrected and approved.
2. The president reported that flyers about the April 29 workshop had been distributed.
3. We continue to face on-line rumors that counties receive funds for cemetery maintenance and restoration from the state. They are not true, and we need to correct them when they surface.
4. The treasurer reported a balance of $3,733.71, unchanged since last report.
5. Ken Holmes reported that he had worked at the Hess Cemetery.
6. Plans for the April 29 program were finalized.
7. Next workday will be May 15 at the Hess Cemetery. The Holmeses will be away, so Bud Bush will facilitate the work. Donna Tauber will distribute flyers.
8. The commission approved a $250 to Brad Manzenberger for services.
9. Marianne Hughes and this commission will coordinate planning an observance for the marker at the site of the North 14th Street Cemetery in New Castle, perhaps on June 13.
10. The meeting was adjourned until May 27.

Henry County Cemetery Commission Minutes, May 27, 2010

1. The minutes of the meeting of April 22 were approved as previously distributed.
2. The president reported that the payment to Brad Manzenberger had been made.
3. The president shared some of the positive comments she had received on our April 29 workshop.
4. Bud Bush is working with Dan Conway on the sign for the Kessinger Cemetery in Blue River Township.
5. It was reported that considerable work had been accomplished at the Hess Cemetery on May 15. At least 25 markers were cleaned, and six big monuments reset.
6. The commission agreed to hold its next workday, on June 19, at the Hess Cemetery to continue work there. We still need volunteers.
7. The commission will take part in events at the Arts Park on June 3 and the Henry County Historical Society on June 26.
8. Arrangements have been made for a ceremony to unveil the marker at the North 14th Street Cemetery in New Castle on June 12.
9. The Internet rumors about counties receiving cemetery funds from the state have been rebutted by state officials.

Henry County Cemetery Commission Minutes, June 24, 2010

1. Minutes of the meeting of May 27 were approved as previously disseminated.
2. A claim from Ken Holmes for $107.80 for three straps was approved, and a payment of $100 to Brad Manzenberger for work at the Hess Cemetery was approved.
3. We will have literature available at the Henry County Historical Society Lawn Social on June 26.
4. The June 19 workday was canceled because of inclement weather.
5. The next workday will be July 17 at the Hess Cemetery.
6. The Holmeses reported that the trailer is in good shape. Supplies are sufficient. Insurance on the trailer has been paid.
7. The sign for the Old North 14th Street Cemetery is in the city’s possession. We will pursue its erection.
8. The treasurer reported a balance of $3,483.71, prior to payment of the claims presented at this meeting.
9. The commission agreed to focus on Hess and Beech Grove Cemeteries for the rest of the year.
10. Next meeting will be Thursday, July 29, at 6:00 P.M., site to be determined.

Henry County Cemetery Commission Minutes, July 29, 2010

1. The minutes of the meeting of June 24 were approved as previously distributed.
2. The Day of Caring will be held September 10, 2010. The Commission is considering working in Hess Cemetery.
3. Brad Manzenberger will be contacted to see if he is available to assist on the Day of Caring.
4. Bob Hess reported on the work he is doing on the Hess Cemetery. New Trustee, Joe Manis, is interested in buying Heritage Signs for his cemeteries.
5. The treasurer reported a balance of $3,366.31.
6. Next meeting will be Thursday, August 26, at 6:00PM, site to be determined.

1. The minutes of the meeting of July 29, 2010, were approved.
2. The treasurer reported the donation of $129 from Hess descendants for a sign at the Hess Cemetery.
3. Signs are also on order or anticipated for the Bowers, Bethel German Baptist, Cadiz Friends, Clear Spring Friends, and Hedrick cemeteries.
4. Our Day of Caring site on Sept. 10 will be the Hess Cemetery. Work will also take place at Sulphur Springs. Ken Holmes will bring the trailer to the Hess Cemetery that morning. The Cadiz Fire Department will supply water.
5. The commission approved a payment of $300 for professional services for the Day of Caring.
6. There is interest in placing a sign at the Showalter Cemetery in Fall Creek Township.
7. The commissioners and those present discussed ways to increase public interest. One possibility is to ask each township trustee to make an appointment to the advisory board.
8. The commission agreed to hold its September and October meetings at the Henry County Historical Society.
9. The commission adjourned to meet Sept. 23 at 6:00 P.M.

Henry County Cemetery Commission Minutes, September 23, 2010

Present from the public: Bob Hess, Ben Badgley, Ken Holmes, Joe Manis
1. The minutes of the meeting of August 26 were considered and approved.
2. The president reported on the work done at the Hess Cemetery by prison volunteers on Sept. 10, the Day of Caring. Appreciation for service was expressed to the Harrison Township trustee and the Cadiz Volunteer Fire Department.
3. The president reported a payment of $300 to John Walters for work at the Hess Cemetery.
4. The commission approved reimbursement of $23.21 to Ken Holmes for repairs to the power washer.
5. It was reported that arrangements are being made for Indiana Historical Bureau signage at the Showalter, Bethel, and Bowers cemeteries. A sign has been erected at the Kessinger Cemetery.
6. Ken Holmes reported that free posts for signs are no longer available from the county. We will consider inviting individuals to bear the costs, which are minimal.
7. The commission approved the loan of equipment to Bob Hess to continue work at the Hess Cemetery.
8. The commission adjourned until its next meeting, Thursday, Oct. 28, at 6:00 P.M.

Henry County Cemetery Commission Minutes, Oct. 28, 2010
Commission Members Present: D. Tauber, M. Burch, T. Hamm
Present from the Public: Gene Clark, Ben Badgley, Bob Hess
1. The minutes of the meeting of Sept. 23 were approved as previously distributed.
2. The treasurer being absent, there was no report.
3. The president reported that the trailer has been stored for the winter.
4. The Christmas party is tentatively scheduled for Dec. 6 at 5:30 P.M.
5. Paperwork has been received for the sign for the Showalter Cemetery in Fall Creek Township. Paperwork on other markers is pending.
6. The sign for the 14th Street Cemetery in New Castle is not yet erected, due to difficulties in arranging a dedication ceremony.
7. Gene Clark, president of the Hillsboro Cemetery Board, reported on work that he has done, including compilation of a burial plat.
8. Bob Hess reported that work continues at the Hess Cemetery.
9. The president reported renewed interest in the Trail Cemetery in Greensboro Township.
10. The board adjourned until its next meeting, Thursday, January 27, 2011.
