Results of township elections. "We present below the names of township officers elected last week for all the townships in the county. Liberty failed to elect an Assessor. Many of the Justices and Constables will not qualify, as the business in most of the townships will hardly justify even one man with ordinary intelligence devoting his time to it. In Jefferson and some of the other townships some of the parties receiving the highest votes were not eligible and we are not able to tell who will fill the offices.

"In Jefferson Township, the Democracy met with gratifying misfortune. They had two candidates for assessor. A Mr. Cory received a majority of the votes cast and his election was duly certified. About this time it leaked, that he had resigned the office of Justice of the Peace to run for assessor and the law expressly declares that a Justice of the Peace is not eligible to an election to any other office until the time for which he was elected Justice expires. His opponent had not received a majority of the votes cast was not elected. The consequence, our auditor not being in the habit of appointing Democrats to office felt it his duty to give Democratic Jefferson a Republican assessor."
