Restoration of Hubble - Leakey Cemetery - June 2007
The Hubble/Leakey cemetery located in Liberty Township, Henry County, IN, is being restored as the Eagle Badge project of Scout Todd Hiday with help of some of his family, friends and other volunteers. Ken Holmes of the Henry County Cemetery Commission is assisting and advising Todd on this project. The first step was to replace the destroyed fence with a new one. Then on Saturday, June 2, 2007 on a hot and humid day with temperatures in the 90s they returned to start restoring the fallen and damaged stones. Ken is one of the hardest working members of the Henry County Cemetery Commission. I wish we had more like him he can do it all.
This is the second project involving the Boy Scouts of Americaâ using one of Henry County's old pioneer cemeteries as an Eagle Badge project. I believe this is one great way to work with the other groups in the county in restoring the many old cemeteries of our early pioneers. If we could just get a few more volunteers such as Todd we could accomplish quite a lot in the old cemeteries.
Its great to see this old cemetery restored, as it is one of the most visible of all of the old pioneer cemeteries in the county. Everyone entering New Castle on the Dublin Pike will see this restoration project. This should be one project everyone involved with it should be proud of when finished. A really great job Ken, Todd and all the other volunteers, we all really do appreciate all the hard work that you have put into this project.
