This old pioneer cemetery located on county road #400 south with its intersection of county road #375 west in section #35 of Greensboro township, Henry county, Indiana was established on 26 Oct 1830 when the members of the Greensboro Friends church got into a squabble over different directions the church was going in Quaker sectarian strife.
Those siding with Elias Hicks, who led the "Hick'site" contingent of Quakers, which found itself in disagreement with the more orthodox members of the community, split and formed the Hick'site church on October 26, 1830 when Levi Cook deeded to Thomas Haskett, Hugh Mills and Jacob Woods, trustees of the church known as the Hick'site Friends, 2 acres of land for the erection of a house of worship and a burial ground for its members.
The little town of Greensboro has three cemeteries because of the Quaker church split, Greensboro Friends, Hick'site Friends (for reasons previously stated) who at first didn't believe in tomb stones (a vanity issue) and the Jesse Rose public burial ground for those of other faiths or non-believers who desired to have family plots and grave markers.
The Hisck'site is in great condition and is well maintained by the township trustee and is still used occasionally. There are a few stones that need repaired but other than that it is doing good.
R. Thomas Mayhill first recorded this cemetery in the late 1960s and there have been quite a few burials since that time. I went out to the old cemetery in February of 2006 and updated the list to the latest burials up to and including 2005.
