This old cemetery located on Henry County Road #650 North, in section #11 of Prairie township, Henry County Co., IN was first established on 8 Apr 1834 as a Regular Baptist church and cemetery when John Mellett, John Hays and John G. Miller were elected as trustees to accept a deed from Wm. Mellett Sr. for land to erect a house of worship and to established a burial grounds for its members. On 13 Aug 1853 Reg. James T. Moore, David Vance and John S. Hickman were elected trustee and again on 8 Oct 1860, Joshua Mellett, Samuel Baxton and Johnathan Veach were elected church trustees.    The church would later move to Mt. Summit to be closer to its members who had moved there to be closer to the railroad and commerce. The cemetery continued to be used quite a lot up until the mid 1880s, when families started burying in the newly established Mt. Summit cemetery. There have been several burials in the last twenty years, but very few. The last burial here was in 1974, and the earliest known burial here was in 1831    Thomas Hamm and the New Castle Parkview Junior High School History Club, who have recorded many of the county's cemeteries, first recorded this cemetery in 1973. I returned in October of 2005 and updated all recent burials. There were three veterans of the war of 1812 and a few veterans of the Civil war buried here.    The cemetery receives regular care and maintenance from the township trustee who pays someone to maintain it. Its location and isolation is such that I doubt that it will ever be used for any more interments.
