Lafayette United Methodist Church has a proud heritage that celebrates almost 150 years of Spiritual Service to the Lafayette Community. We are centrally located at 955 Moraga Road, in the City of Lafayette, Calfornia and have a vibrant, caring congregation that welcomes all. See our upcoming events for "What's Happening" around Lafayette United Methodist Church.

Our Worship Services

Our Worship Services are an opportunity for our congregation and visitors to hear the good news of Jesus Christ and to give praise to God.
We Meet on Sunday Morning:
10:00 am A Spirited Traditional Worship Service
Nursery & Toddler Care available
Our Sunday School

Our Sunday School provides caring and meaningful Christian Education Classes for preschoolers through adults.

10:30 am Christian Education Classes — Toddlers through high school students start off attending worship service in the sanctuary. After the Word for Young Disciples they are excused to their classes. After the church service and classes the youth rejoin the adults in the Fellowship Hall.

Youth Fellowship

Greetings! We have a dynamic youth program here at the Lafayette United Methodist Church. Our youth program is a combination of youth from the Lafayette United Methodist Church as well as youth from the Lafayette Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Within this combined youth group we have a Junior High Youth Group as well as a Senior High Youth Group. Both groups have regular meetings on Sunday evenings from 6:00 PM until 7:45 PM, where dinner is provided for all the youth. There are also special events such as ski trips and service projects that take place outside of the regular meeting times.

Our directors of Youth Ministry are Bob Bonner and Judy Stillman

Come and join us for fun and fellowship!

Sundays, 6:00-7:45 pm - Youth Groups for Middle and High School Students

Adult Spiritual Formation

Periodic opportunities for adult study are offered on Sunday mornings or weekday evenings. United Methodist Women hold announced gatherings for all women. Women's Bible Study meets on a weekday morning as do the MOMS group, the Ellen Circle and the prayer group. The Men's Breakfast Group meets on Saturday mornings. Membership classes are held regularly.

P.R.A.Y. the Bible

P.R.A.Y.ing the Bible is a reflective method of listening to God's Word for our lives. Participants read assigned daily Bible readings. At weekly group sessions they share insights, reflections and questions that make the scriptures relevant to our lives.

We offer two opportunities for such small group sharing: Sundays from 9:30 - 10:15 a.m. in the Church Library (Rm. 9), and Mondays from 8:30 - 9:30 a.m. at Papillion Coffee Shop in La Fiesta Square. The reading schedule is available in the church office or in the brochure racks in the Fellowship Hall. All are welcome.

United Methodist Women

The Lafayette United Methodist Women (or untiring mission workers) is a group of women who meet for spiritual renewal, study of current issues, supportive friendship and goal oriented fund raising for outreach to the local community and the world. There are several things you need to know about the unit:

  • we are an open society of women of all ages who are interested in improving the plight of persons, women and children particularly, around the world and at home;
  • we have small local cells (often called circles) who meet for fellowship, spiritual support, study and prayer;
  • we raise funds for local church projects and local community outreach;
  • the women meet on the first Thursday of each month from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. for a program and luncheon.
Please call the church office for dates and times of coming events.

M & M

M & M's is a social group of varied ages (usually 45 yrs and up) who get together once a month for fun and fellowship. Members in the group take turns hosting the monthly activity. Some past activities have been: attending plays, walks around Angel Island, bowling, potluck dinners, decorating the sanctuary for Christmas, and an annual New Year's Eve party.

Activities are announced in the church bulletin and newsletter.

Men's Breakfast Group

Men of the church meet at 8:00 A.M. on the third Saturday of September, November January, March and May. After a hearty meal, they are fed insights from guest speakers from the community.

Music

RING RING RING!! Hey out there - pick up the phone! The LUMC Choir is calling YOU!

--Have you ever wanted to sing in a choir, but didn't think you could sing?
--Ever considered yourself a shower singer?
--Not enough time?

Well, delay no longer! Everyone is invited to join. All you need is a desire to sing praises and enjoy fellowship. No musical background is required. We'd love for you to join us! And about the shower singers, bring your rubber ducky and towel and join us. For those who have limited time, we rehearse only twice per week — on Thursday evenings at 7:30 P.M. and Sunday mornings at 9:45 A.M.

Even if you can only come a couple of times per month, or just for a few months. Any time you can invest in the choir is more than welcome. We have lots of fun and are eager to share praises with others. If you'd like any information, have questions, or would like to enter the "Most Creative Reason Not to Join the Choir" contest, please call Bunny Gruhn, Director of Music Ministries.

Through our Outreach ministry team we offer opportunities to be in mission. Local and global projects are selected by the team. These include: Mt. Diablo Habitat for Humanity, Reach Plus, Friends Outside, the conference Volunteers in Mission Program, Heifer Project International, and other projects in Kosovo, Russia and Mexico.
