John R. McCormack (on right) of Harrison Twp. enlisted with the 69th IVI on Aug. 11,1862 in New Castle, In. He was wounded and captured prisoner in the Battle of Richmond Ky. on Aug. 30, 1862. Home on leave from Sept. 1862 until Mar. 1863. He then joined back up with the 69th, accompanied by Capt. Robert Collins of Cadiz, In. at Milliken's Bend La. He fought in the Battle of Vicksburg where he died of disease. He was buried at Milliken's Bend and later entered into Vicksburg Natl. Cemetery listed with the unknown. John was the son of Melon and Mary (Bennett) McCormack. Born in 1834 in Wayne Twp. his father Melon McCormack from Bedford Co. Virginia and his grandfather John McCormack from Bedford Co. Virginia both acquired land patents in Harrison Twp. Henry Co. in Mar. of 1837. He married Nancy E. Baugh(a)n in Aug. of 1854.They had a daughter, Mary E. McCormack born in Mar. 1855. Nancy died in Oct.1855. She is buried at Hess Cemetery. His daughter Mary married Richard Callahan in 1872. ...Photo courtesy of Camille Edwards

William F. Callahan (1889-1954) and Dottie F. Hodson(1893-1983) were married on Jan. 10, 1912 in Henry Co. William is the son of Richard and Mary E. (McCormack) Callahan. Dottie is the daughter of John O. Hodson(1869-1946) and Susan A.(Bowers) Hodson(1870-1946). William and Dottie owned the land where the old school on Mechanicsburg road still stands in Harrison Twp.
